Soapmaking Classes

I have over 8 years of teaching experience at the college level. (My M.A. is in Technical Writing.) It was only natural for me to incorporate that into my soapmaking business. We don't study grammar or write papers. We just have fun making soap.

(Items include: All-Purpose Counter/Glass Cleaning Spray, Trash Can Deodorizer, Super Safe Soft Scrub, Natural Toilet Bowl Cleaner.) Everything you need is provided. Also includes a handout of additional recipes to make at home, including ones for Fragrant Floor Wash and Laundry Detergent.

2008 Classes

Stillwater: May 16.

Onsite at Shawnee Soapmaker: Thursday, Jan. 31, 6-7 p.m. or, get some friends together and call to set up a date!

Natural Soapmaking

Learn the basics (and beyond!) of natural soapmaking. This is the old-fashioned lye method, also known as CP (cold process). You will learn by participating in making your own 1.5 - 2 pound batch of soap to take home. (This batch will take 3-4 weeks to set.) We will be using a 19th centruy soap recipe. Add herbs/botanicals to your soap if you wish. Some will be provided. Learn how color your soap naturally.

Participants must bring a stainless steel pot (a stock pot works well) or a glass pot for stovetop use, a stainless steel spoon, and 2 old towels for insulating your soap mold. (Molds are included.) Please note: aluminum pots and spoons are not usable because the aluminum reacts with the lye.

Wooden soap molds, soapmaking books with recipes, and other supplies will be available for purchase but is not needed to participate in this class.

This is a 2.5-3 hour class.

Additional glycerin, molds, and fragrances will be available for sale but is not required to participate in this class. New! This class now includes a kit to make your own Goldfish in a Bag soap.
